This is a video of me creating a conch shell mug.
I start by developing the idea on my drawing pad, then proceed to the actual shaping at the potter’s wheel.By weighing the clay and using a throwing template, I’m able to produce mugs to a consistent size.
The thrown mugs are then engobed (dipped in a mix of white clay, oxides and water, a kind of coloured ‘soup’), subjected to an initial firing (biscuit firing) and covered in a clear glaze, that appears white until the second firing turns it into glass.
