The rugose exterior of the sea urchin has long been a fascination of mine, inspiring a variety of sea urchin bowls in many different sizes.
I was once diving on the Greek island of Chyros. Here I met an old man, Marcos, who took me diving for sea urchins. Our catch was cracked open and beautifully arranged with lemon wedges on the warm rocks. The taste was divine. The whole experience was wonderfully simple: dive, catch, eat. This inspired me to make bowls with more pronounced spines, which were also designed to be more open, thus increasing the utility value.
The sea urchins are constantly developing, forever changing their shapes and colours, much as they are constantly becoming more pointed and exciting to touch…
I create my sea urchins in a variety of colours and designs.
